Ensure that the general use of workstation equipment is not a source of risk for your employees by carrying out Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessments.

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, General Application Regulations 2007, employers are required to evaluate health and safety at workstations. Employers need to carry out an analysis of individual workstations and a competent person with the necessary skills, training and experience must complete this analysis.

Regulation 72 of the 2007 regulations states that the employer must:

  • Ensure that the general use of the DSE equipment is not a source of risk for the employee and
  • Perform an analysis of the workstation in order to evaluate the safety and health conditions to which it gives rise for employees, particularly as regards possible risks to eyesight, physical problems and problems of mental stress and, on the basis of that evaluation, take appropriate measures to remedy any risks found, taking account of the minimum requirements in Schedule 4 of the Regulations and any additional or combined effects of any such risks.

Ergonomic Assessments

“Ergonomics applies information about human behaviour, abilities and limitations and other characteristics to the design of tools, machines, tasks, jobs and environments for productive, safe, comfortable and effective human use” (McCormick and Saunders 1993).

  • If the employee has no choice but to use the DSE to carry out her/his work
  • If the employee normally uses the DSE for continuous periods of more than one hour

  • Easy to see what equipment is needed for each employee if applicable and if they have any current issues
  • Easy to download the data as a .csv Excel file and manipulate the data in numerous ways to give you a bigger picture of the assessments across all stakeholders.

The database can be customised to suit your organisation and processes and setting up the database is free of charge for large DSE Assessment consultancy clients.

We can provide sample DSE assessments and sample database access on request.
