Why complete a QQI Level 5 Safety and Health at Work course?

  1. Legal Compliance: The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requires organisations to provide a safe and healthy work environment for their employees, contractors and visitors. Completing a health and safety course helps individuals and organisations understand and meet these legal requirements, ensuring compliance and minimising the risk of penalties or legal issues.
  2. Risk Reduction: Health and safety training equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to identify potential hazards and risks in the workplace. By understanding the principles of risk assessment and control measures, participants can take proactive steps to mitigate risks, prevent accidents, and create a safer working environment for themselves and their colleagues.
  3. Employee Well-being: Prioritising health and safety in the workplace demonstrates care for employees’ well-being. By investing in health and safety training, organisations show their commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment, which can boost employee morale, productivity, and satisfaction.
  4. Accident Prevention: The course educates individuals on best practices, procedures, and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. Participants learn about proper handling of equipment, safe work practices, emergency response procedures, and more. This knowledge helps reduce the likelihood of accidents and promotes a culture of safety within the organisation.
  5. Cost Savings: Workplace accidents and injuries can result in significant financial costs for organisations. These costs may include medical expenses, compensation claims, legal fees, equipment damage, production delays, and increased insurance premiums. By investing in health and safety training, organisations can reduce the risk of accidents and associated costs, ultimately saving money in the long run.
  6. Reputation and Compliance: Demonstrating a commitment to health and safety not only benefits employees but also enhances an organisation’s reputation. Clients, customers, and stakeholders are more likely to trust and engage with companies that prioritise the well-being of their workforce. In industries where health and safety compliance is a requirement, having trained employees helps organisations meet client expectations and contractual obligations.
  7. Personal Development: Completing a Safety and Health at Work course provides individuals with valuable knowledge and skills that can enhance their professional profile. Health and safety certifications are recognised qualifications that can improve employability and career prospects, particularly in industries where safety is a top priority.

What are the National Framework of Qualifications?

The National Framework of Qualifications describes what learners need to know, understand and be able to do, to achieve a qualification. It lists the main qualifications awarded at each level and pathways from one NFQ level to the next.

It allows you to compare qualifications to help with your choice of programme or course, knowing that it will be recognised at home and abroad.

All qualifications included on the NFQ are listed in the Irish Register of Qualifications. If your qualification was obtained outside Ireland, NARIC Ireland, the National Academic Recognition Information Centre will help you find out how your qualification is understood in Ireland.
