Online Manual Handling
Our online Manual Handling course (theory) is a 30 minute course designed to help organisations deliver training to employees as soon as they begin work and before they might need to undertake a manual handling task.
For full certification, a practical lift assessment must be completed within 60 days of your online theory only module. The online practical assessment is €20 and can be purchased at this link.
- A laptop or smartphone must be available and set-up so the Instructor can see you head-to-toe, to ensure you are completing the lift assessments correctly.
- On completion of your online theory course, please contact us at support@thecplinstitute.ie to arrange your practical assessment delivered through ZOOM for full certification.
Manual Handling Practical Assessment Requirements:
- Laptop with webcam/mobile device with working camera.
- 1 box (comfortable 1 person lift)
- Table/desk/counter – Approximately waist height, in good condition and stable.
- Shelf/surface – no higher than shoulder height, in good condition and stable.
- Trolley for push/pull assessment
- If there is a second person available, the team lift may be assessed.
*PLEASE NOTE:
- Should you not turn up for your practical assessment or fail to have what is required to complete it, you will have to pay for the assessment again at an extra cost of €20. You will receive a email booking confirmation with a calendar appointment and link to your scheduled time. You will also receive a reminder email the day before your assessment so if you do not turn up you will have to pay again.
- Should you not arrange your practical assessment within 60 days of completing the online course, you will have to pay for the online course again and complete it before being eligible for the assessment.
Online Manual Handling (*Theory & Practical)
In order to successfully gain a certificate of competence in Manual Handling, learners must complete our Manual Handling course online and then complete the practical elements of the programme by a certified Manual Handling Instructor. The practical session takes approximately 20 – 25 minutes per person or 45 minutes for groups of 4.
For in-house practical assessments, we can send an instructor to your business premises nationwide to carry out practical sessions for up to a maximum of 4 people per session, providing you have a training room large enough to incorporate all safety measures. Depending on location and numbers to be assessed, there may be an extra cost associated with this option.

On successful completion of this programme, learners will gain a certificate of achievement in Online Manual Handling (Theory only) and if you complete the practical too you will receive the full certificate.
Device to use for completion:
Use a Laptop or Desktop computer to complete this online course. Smartphones are not recommended to use to complete this training as brands and phone specifications are different from one smartphone to the next and can cause login issues or compatibility issues. Also the Internet Explorer browser was discontinued in 2015 and unfortunately older versions of the browser are still being used. This has caused login issues when trying to complete the course so it is advised to use the Google Chrome internet browser or a similar up-to-date browser to complete the course.

- The course must be completed in order to obtain the certificate of completion
