Why become a Fire Warden?

  1. Life-saving responsibilities: Fire wardens play a critical role in emergency situations by taking charge of fire safety procedures and evacuations. They are responsible for identifying and mitigating fire hazards, conducting fire drills, and ensuring the safe evacuation of occupants during a fire or other emergencies. By becoming a fire warden, you have the opportunity to save lives and protect people from harm.
  2. Contributing to fire prevention: Fire wardens are involved in fire risk assessments, inspections, and ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and procedures. They work to identify potential fire hazards, implement preventive measures, and educate others about fire safety practices. By actively participating in fire prevention efforts, fire wardens help reduce the risk of fires and promote a safer environment.
  3. Enhancing workplace safety: Fire wardens play a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe working environment. They are responsible for raising awareness about fire safety, conducting training sessions, and providing guidance to employees on fire prevention measures and emergency procedures. By becoming a fire warden, you can contribute to a safer workplace and help protect colleagues, visitors, and the surrounding property.

These skills include fire risk assessment, emergency planning and response, leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making. The experience gained as a fire warden can enhance your overall employability and may open doors to other roles in health and safety or emergency management.
  5. Job satisfaction: Many fire wardens find their roles to be fulfilling and rewarding. Fire Warden Training – Workplace Obligations:

There is a legal requirement on employers to prepare an Emergency Plan that outlines how the workplace will be evacuated in the event of a fire outbreak. Fire Wardens are designated the responsibility of executing this plan in an emergency situation. This course aims to inform Fire Wardens of their responsibilities in running a fire drill effectively and safety. It also details the steps involved in developing an Emergency Plan for the workplace, in the event that one does not currently exist.

Section 11(1)(c) of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 states that the employer is required to:

“designate employees to implement the plans, procedures and measures concerning fire and emergency. These designated employees are commonly called fire wardens or fire officers”
