COVID-19 Workplace Appointed Representative

Put the plans in place to train a appointed person to implement COVID-19 safety systems. 

This 3 hour tailored COVID-19 workplace appointed representative programme delivered online, is designed for all sectors (excluding Construction) and for management and those who have been appointed as COVID-19 workplace appointed representatives in his/her workplace. The course adheres to and meets all HSE, National Health and HSA guidance and includes the requirements set out in the Government “Return to Work Safely Protocol”.

As stated in the “Return to Work Safely Protocol” document an Employer will appoint at least one lead worker representative whose role is to work collaboratively with employer to assist in the implementation of measures and monitor adherence to the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.

The worker representative should, together with the COVID-19 response management team, support the implementation and rollout of measures identified in the national “Return to Work Safely Protocol” document. The “Return to Work Safely Protocol” is a government document outlining various measures aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. The protocol is mandatory, will be enforced by the HSA and all employers will need to put all relevant measures into practice to comply fully with the new public health measures.

Participants on the course will receive a guidance documents, sample templates, sample forms, sample risk assessments and sample checklists for use in their workplace.

Our live interactive virtual online training course will allow for classroom style discussion and interaction as if you were in the classroom from any location that you choose.


Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm

Online Training Requirements:

  • You must have access to a laptop/computer with a webcam to complete this training
  • You must be available to complete the whole course as 100% attendance is required
  • You will receive a link by email to access the training and the platform controls will be discussed at the beginning of the session

Any Manager or employee that has been appointed or taking up the role of the COVID-19 Workplace Appointed Representative or lead worker representative in his/her workplace and/or is part of the response management team and assisting in the implementation and rollout measures identified in the “Return to Work Safely Protocol” document.

Also designed for Business Owners, Managers, Response Management Team, Compliance Officers, Health and Safety Officers, HR Officers and Lead Worker Representatives who require information and practical guidance on controls to comply with COVID-19 infection prevention measures and adhere to the training requirements for employers set out in the COVID-19 Return to Work Safely Protocol.

Course Aim

By the end of this course you should have a greater understanding of COVID-19, its symptoms, how the virus is spread and how to prevent the spread in the workplace. This course is suitable Business owners, Managers, Team Leads, response management team and anyone who is the workplace who is the appointed person or the lead worker representative.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course participants will have the ability to:

  • Describe a suitable COVID-19 workplace response plan
  • Discuss and explain the related legislation requirements for employers and employees relating to COVID-19, including the protocol
  • Discuss what documentation and checklists are required and what current documentation is to be updated
  • Explain the requirements for risk assessments relating to COVID-19
  • Setup, monitor and evaluate a COVID-19 return to work programme
  • State the duties as COVID-19 Workplace Appointed Representative
  • Setup and manage Infection Prevention and Control measures in the workplace
  • Develop suitable policies and procedures for suspected cases or contact with confirmed case in the workplace.
  • State the importance of daily checks

Course Assessment

Multiple-Choice Questions test will be completed at end of course by each participant.

  • Good Level of English language both oral and written.
  • Laptop/Tablet/Computer with Camera and Audio.
  • Adequate broadband for live stream of course and interaction.
  • Please ensure you have a quiet area while the course is being delivered so as you can maximise your commitment and attention.
  • There will be a short multi choice assessment at the end of the virtual course and will be completed online. You will be sent a link for this assessment during the course.


On successful completion, The Cpl Institute will issue a COVID-19 Workplace Appointed Persons Certificate to each participant.
