Explore the origins of Person Centred Planning

The purpose of this QQI Level 6 award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required in the theory and practice of person centred planning to implement person centred planning approaches in a specific workplace context.

Learners attending this programme must meet RPL criteria. Your entry to this course is not guaranteed until The Cpl Institute training team can confirm your RPL eligibility.

On course completion learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the concept of person centred planning, to include the key features, characteristics and benefits
  2. Examine the effectiveness of a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to person centred planning
  3. Explore the origins of person centred planning
  4. Analyse a range of theories of and approaches to person centred planning
  5. Outline relevant Irish legislation in the field of disability and rehabilitation and its effect on the way the person centred planning process is conducted
  6. Assess the challenges for an organisation in the person centred planning process
  7. Examine the resources necessary to ensure that person centred planning will make a significant difference in an individuals life
  8. Outline the roles of individuals involved in the person centred planning process
  9. Identify practical examples of good practice in person centred planning
  10. Recognise the importance of communication in the person centred planning process and the barriers to effective communication
  11. Explain the importance of the need to manage the tensions between interests of organisations and service users
  12. Compare person centred planning approaches from an Irish and international context
  13. Assess a specific organisation’s commitment to person centred planning
  14. Examine the implementation and evaluation of person centred planning in a specific organisation
  15. Analyse recent developments in Ireland in the area of person centred planning
  16. Promote empowerment of staff and service users
  17. Apply best practice in person centred planning

All learning outcomes must be assessed:

  • Assignment 50% – An assignment is an exercise carried out in response to a brief with specific guidelines as to what should be included. An assignment is usually of short duration and may be carried out over a specified period of time. The assessor will devise two assignments at 25% each
  • Learner Record 50% – A learner record is the learner’s self-reported and self-reflective record in which he/she describes specific learning experiences, activities, responses and skills acquired

Grading:

  • Pass 50% – 64%
  • Merit 65% – 79%
  • Distinction 80% – 100%

Transfer:

Achievement of this award will enable the learner to transfer to other appropriate programmes leading to awards at the same level of the National Framework of Qualifications.
