Since 10th September 2008 (Coaches / Minibus) and 10th September 2009 (HGV) all drivers whose main task is driving such vehicles professionally, must undertake periodic training each year to retain their CPC status. This involves attending one module (one day) each year for five years after which a driver CPC card will be issued by the Road Safety Authority (RSA). This training can only be delivered at RSA approved training centres and by RSA approved trainers. The attendance will be recorded by the training provider and uploaded to the RSA database.

Drivers who attained the relevant licence after the above dates must complete a module of Driver CPC within one year of the issue date on their driving licence.

Who should attend?

Drivers who wish to continue to drive HGV’s or Coaches professionally.

Course Objectives:

On course completion, the participants will be better, safer, environmentally and economically aware and physically healthier drivers.

Periodic Training:

Drivers must complete 5 modules, one per year, consisting of 7 hours each, over 5 years.

  • Module 1 – Control of Vehicle and Eco Driving Techniques
  • Module 2 – Minimising Risks and Managing Emergencies
  • Module 3 – Health and Safety of the Professional Driver
  • Module 4 – Role of the Professional Driver in the Transport Industry
  • Module 5 – The Professional Truck Driver
  • Module 6 – The Professional Bus Driver

Assessment/Certification:

Upon completing the 5 year periodic training, you’ll receive a CPC Driver Qualification Card from the RSA. This card will last for 5 years and in that 5 years you are expected to have all modules completed again so when your card expires you will be issued with a new card.
